The switch stand is a white metal kit that was produced at one time by Alder Models - sadly, no longer available. It's tied into the head rod so the handle and target rotate as the switch is thrown. Here, it's set for the main track. The gap between the trees is for a farm road between the orchards. It'll include a gated, private crossing of the tracks to allow the farmer to move wagons of harvested apples from the far orchard. The trees are 2.5" tall armatures from Woodland Scenics. Obviously, they need additional branches, foliage - and apples!
